Back to the mainland

So today we're heading back to Ranong, our first stop on the way to Koh Lanta. The ferry will take us there this afternoon, and tomorrow morning we'll continue by bus to Phuket, and then on Monday we'll take another ferry to the next island. And then finally to Koh Lanta.

The past few days here have been nicer than expected. We've gotten used to the tent (although I'm still looking forward to an indoor bathroom!!) and having the beach right in front of us is pretty cool! We've also met some nice people, this time not from Bavaria, but families from Frankfurt :-)

We also went on an excursion yesterday. And of course, we took a moto-taxi! Nora sat in the middle like a pro and found the ride great and exciting! I was less relaxed, but I have to say that the drivers here are very skilled and careful, and they know every pothole on the roads! One of the attached pictures shows the "main roads" here on the island....just wide enough for two mopeds to pass each other. In between, there are pedestrians and lots of stray dogs, of which there are quite a few here. But so far, I haven't encountered any aggressive dogs. They're all very relaxed island four-legged friends. The excursion took us to the Hippy Bar, a pirate ship built from driftwood with lots of little nooks and seating areas and stairs to different levels. A real adventure playground! You can only imagine it from the photos, but in reality, it was really fascinating!!!

PS: We saw hornbills on the ship! Some of them live there! It was pretty cool! Nora initially thought they weren't real .... until one flew away 😄
