This morning we set off early to take the cable car to Langkawi's second highest mountain, Machinchang Mountain, and enjoy the view. Since taxis are relatively expensive here, we decided to try the alternative service called "Grab". We downloaded the app on our phone and with it, we can easily, quickly, and affordably order a driver. Our driver arrived at the hotel within a minute. I was pleasantly surprised. It was worth trying something new. So we headed to the SkyCab (that's the name of the cable car). When we arrived there, it was still peaceful, the tourist crowds probably come in the afternoon. We could comfortably take a gondola for ourselves and start an impressive ride up. We're talking about the world's longest stretch between two pillars. Because there were only two pillars in the lower part of the 1700m journey. Most of the way, there was just a cable stretched. And just before reaching the destination, it suddenly got quite windy!...and I felt a little queasy in my stomach! Fortunately, we were almost there. When we reached the top (at an altitude of 700 meters), we had a spectacular view of the island, and even to the south of Thailand. Another highlight up there is a suspended bridge, attached to only one pillar, that spans about 100 meters above the ground in a semi-circle from one peak to another. Absolutely impressive! There were even glass elements embedded in the floor in some parts. Not for people with acrophobia! Does anyone feel addressed? :-))
We returned from the bridge to the mountain station via stairs. The steps were sometimes knee height for Nora! But she climbed all 265 steps bravely and completely motivated - apparently the spirit of adventure was awakened :)
Before heading back down to the valley, I treated myself to a delicious coffee with a magnificent view. Once we reached the bottom, we visited a 3D museum, Nora had a great time there too and I felt like I took 138 photos of her. She was running excitedly from one background to another, always showing me where to stand to take the photos. And as soon as one picture was finished, we went to the next attraction :) But there were some really cool things.
For the ride back home, we wanted to order a driver again via Grab, but you need internet for that. When I couldn't find Wi-Fi, one of the employees set up a connection on her phone for me, and so we were able to quickly order a driver. And he was there even before we reached the exit!
After so much activity, we went to the beach in the late afternoon to splash around a bit. It feels good. Just a moment ago, we quickly had something delicious to eat and now the evening is slowly coming to an end.
We also extended for another 2 nights today and will now stay on Langkawi until Saturday. Then we'll go back to the mainland to Georgetown.
