We decided for a small spontaneous stopover in Malmö only in Copenhagen and we can tell you, it was worth it! The coastal city of Malmö is Sweden's third-largest city, which can be reached in just 40 minutes by train from Copenhagen via the Öresund Bridge.
The city has a pleasant, comparatively quieter character and is definitely good to explore on foot. We started our walk from the train station to the cozy old town, where you can find the central square Lilla Torg with cafes and restaurants, the town hall, St. Petri Church, the oldest building in Malmö, and various small shops. Some other attractions are the Moderna Museet, Malmöhus Castle, and Möllevangstorget Square. Many different nations are represented at Möllevamgstorget Square and in the surrounding neighborhoods. There are restaurants, small grocery stores, and a market with fruits and vegetables, where you can taste watermelon and mango if you just look interested enough at the fruits. We have to say that everything is really fresh and delicious, which is why we decided to take a mango with us.
At noon, since we were already a bit exhausted from the previous days, we went to an Asian restaurant with an all-you-can-eat and drink buffet at the Triangeln department store, where we spent about 3 hours eating, drinking, and chatting in no time. What surprised us the most was the price of 105 SEK ~ 10€ per person for food AND drinks! You can't get such a good price even in Germany!
Furthermore, you should definitely see the Turning Torso, the landmark of Malmö, a spectacular 190-meter-high residential tower, in the sustainably built district of Västra Hamnen with many beautiful cottages on the beach. This district offers a great opportunity for strolling, swimming, and sunbathing at the beach.
We really enjoyed our short time in Malmö and are very happy about our spontaneous decision to go there. One short day was perfect for us in this city - after all, it is not too big.

Many people might have heard about the Swedish city Malmö in connection with the Eurovision Song Contest which was hosted there in 2013. Otherwise it easily gets overshadowed by Stockholm or Gothenburg which are just more popular. And actually it wasn't our plan to do a stop-over in Malmö, we initially planned to head straight to Gothenburg. Good for us that we didn't do it this way! Malmö was great!
Malmö is located right on the other side of the Öresund bridge which builds the connection between Denmark and Sweden. The train ride from Copenhagen to Malmö takes only around 40 minutes.
Malmö is a smaller and quieter city, therefore, everything can easily be reached by foot. It has a nice inner city with lots of shops and cafes. We spent some time around the Möllevangstorget, a nice square in a very multicultural part of the town. You really have a nice variety of international cuisines. And you come along people from all sorts of places around the world. On the Möllevangstorget there was a little market mainly selling fruits and vegetables. The sellers were so nice! Just by passing by at their stand, they handed us water melon and mango for free! (Good for Huilin: she loves water melon and probably dreams about this fruit during the night...). Of course we couldn't resist purchasing one mango.
During lunch time we had a frozen yoghurt as a nice snack in mind and where did we finally end up?: in an all you can eat buffet restaurant... ;) This asian style restaurant is located in the Triangeln Shopping Centre. We were surprised by the very low cost of only 10,50€ per person including Food and Drink. You wouldn't even be able to eat this cheap in Germany and here we are in expensive Scandinavia! While staying in the restaurant we slowly felt our tiredness and the lack of sleep from the previous nights. It was so nice to just sit, relax and eat and so we ended up staying there for over 3 hours. It was nice!
After lunch/dinner we went to the castle, which is not very spectacular from the outside. One last stop that shouldn't be missed is definitely the Turning Torso. The building can be seen from all parts of the town, even from Danmark because it outshines all other buildings. No doubt it looks great!
We definitely enjoyed our time in Malmö and we would highly recommend a visit to everyone.
