Bali - Time for an interim conclusion

Published: 28.10.2017

Hello dear ones,

I have arrived safely in Bali and have spent the past few days on Gili Air. Currently, I am lounging by the pool in Ubud, a place that Julia Roberts fans may know from the movie "Eat, Pray, Love", unless they were asleep during that scene. In Ubud, she nostalgically wanders through rice fields. Alternatively, you can stroll through a sacred monkey forest or try Kopi Luwak, the coffee made from cat feces, as I did. On Gili Air, I mainly rested from the hot Singapore and constant traveling in New Zealand. In a dreamy hotel with really good vegetarian cuisine, I devoured the 800-page novel "Blackout" by Marc Elsberg, a truly excellent novel, especially on Gili Air where there are regular power outages. Furthermore, I have been reflecting on the past weeks and months, processing my experiences calmly. As a true industrial engineer, I naturally had to process all of this in numbers:

As of today, October 28th, I have been traveling for 68 days and during this time, I have visited three continents as well as Oceania, in addition to Europe. During this time, I have walked approximately 504.5 km (according to the GPS on my phone, which is roughly equivalent to 750,000 steps) and covered over 35,000 km in eleven planes. And now the most important news for you, dear mom: So far, I have not had any significant injuries, not even a real sunburn! Fortunately, nothing has really gone wrong so far. A flip flop that fell into the harbor was rescued by the boat crew, and I have also been spared from any serious stomach upsets. Only three charging cables have failed so far.

Best wishes,

Felix
