11th week. Bit of movement for everyone.

Published: 26.02.2020

Today let's get moving (17.02.2020)The sun came up. It's a beautiful view from our windows. Donkeys, cows, sheep, and others pass by. Probably all on their way to the field and/or shopping. We had breakfast. There was a knock on the door. Medi. He brings tea and a type of pancake. We hadn't ordered it. But we gladly accept it. So, besides fruit salad, we had another breakfast. It tasted good. The tea is very sweet and it's black tea. We were expecting mint tea. But it's fine. Today some movement was on the plan. We took a short walk before lunch to the next hill. There we saw many sheep again. The river winding through the mountains. We took another round around the ruin. Some children came towards us. Probably on their way to school. They stopped and turned around to look at us. Back at the motorhome, they still didn't move on. They looked and looked. I asked Wilma if we should give them a candy. Wilma agreed. We counted and took a candy for each child. We thought we would make them happy. Afterwards, I wasn't sure. I think only one child said thank you. They kept looking at us. They kept calling something that sounded like candy. They laughed. They weren't laughing with us, but seemingly at us. I don't know. Maybe it wasn't a good idea after all. Medi came with a little boy in his arms. I asked the boy if he also wants a candy. We got one for him too. Then he asked me to kiss him. Uhm, no. I kissed my right hand and held it to his head. This custom is very strange to me. Meanwhile, Mathias warmed up the tajine. While we were eating, we heard a motorcycle approaching. It was Medi. He must have been gone for a short time and brought us something to eat again. We hadn't ordered it. It was savory pancakes with lentils. It was also delicious. After being fully fed, we started walking. But first, we wanted to give Medi the money for parking and the food. 50 MAD per night plus food, we didn't know the price. We thought that 100 MAD would be more than enough for all the food. We were mistaken. He wanted a total of 250 MAD. We thought it was a bit high. Parking is usually free here. But well, everyone wants to make a living. We did order the tajine and we're happy to pay for it. Everything else he brought us without us wanting it. In the end, we gave him 220 MAD. That was a good turnover for him and his family. We are just the 'rich' tourists and it's always a balancing act to politely and kindly say no. Afterwards, we walked through the small village towards the mosque. Passing rapeseed fields and cows. Goats and others. We walked around the mosque. A small, older one. It's probably still in use. We just glanced through the small door. We didn't go inside because we knew we weren't allowed to. Then we went back to the motorhome because on the other side there was a path down to the river. Wilma sat comfortably in her harness and enjoyed the whole tour being carried by daddy. We walked and walked. The thought of having to walk up again what we had just walked down haunted us. But it was beautiful. A small family came towards us. Some without headscarves. They seemed traditionally modern. We've seen all variations. We greeted each other nicely. Mathias and I stopped briefly because we needed a drink break. I heard footsteps. Fast footsteps. The young girl from earlier is coming towards me. Phone in hand. She says something about a photo. At first, I didn't understand what exactly she wanted to photograph. Then I did. She wanted a picture with me. Sure. She was very happy. I don't know why she was so happy, no idea. We explained it to ourselves that Western women are rarely seen in the area. Whether that's actually true, I don't know. We continued walking between the rock wall and the orange grove. Will we actually reach the water? Didn't look like it. We continued walking and finally, we heard the sound of rushing water. Yeah, water. It was so beautiful. The air was good and Wilma was finally ready to get out. The river was shallow, so we could easily bathe our feet. Wilma slipped and got completely wet. Doesn't matter. It was very warm and a good refreshment. While Vati and Wilma splashed in the water. I stomped around on land like a wild one. I was too scared that there might be snakes here. A few meters away from us, some women were washing laundry. So, the river is also a washing machine. It's all or mostly like 100 years ago. But somehow, it has something. We walked back the same way. Wilma, of course, couldn't walk anymore, after all, her feet had just been cleaned. So, daddy carried the child back up. But we didn't mind. We know that we can hike like this and/or walk around relaxed in the area. When we arrived back at the motorhome, we had new neighbors. An old post van from SE. First, we brought Wilma to bed. Then we went to have a quick 'hello' and went to bed. It was already after 10 pm. We got into a conversation with the two. We told each other about our impressions so far. It was so nice that the quick 'hello' turned into 2 hours. We were back in the house at half past midnight.
