Our journey on Vancouver Island ends today. But first thing in the morning, we see the goat at the garden table 🤣
Around noon, we take the ferry back to the mainland. Before that, we treat ourselves to 3 pieces to go of the ultra delicious cake (it's called Nanaimo Bar here) from Fickle Fig - this time we choose Peanut Crispy Crunch and Pecan Salty Caramel 🥰🤤🤤🤤
During the 1.5-hour ferry ride, we keep an eye out for whales - and we spot a humpback whale 🐳. Just before Vancouver, we briefly cross into U.S. territory 😅
We are back on the mainland! We cross the city and get lucky as we are allowed to check into the Airbnb accommodation a bit earlier 🙏😇
Since the day still has a few hours left, we take Bus 14 into downtown - and experience the worst neighborhood one can imagine...😳 (similar to the Central Station/Steindamm area, very poor, many junkies and homeless people).
A few streets away, we are in Gastown, where there is a whistling clock.
We walk to False Creek (harbor basin) in the northern center. We buy a day pass for the small ferries (12-20 people) and sail around a bit: to Granville Island, where we have Salmon Potatoe Pot Pie ☺️.
On the other side of the harbor basin, we stroll along English Bay Beach - everything here is super colorful, similar to yesterday in Victoria. A cormorant flutters in the tree - and almost flies onto Benny's head🤣
Aside from a few drizzle drops, we are so lucky with the weather today!
We hop back on the ferry and go to 'David Lam Park', stroll a few meters to 'Yaletown' and sail back across to 'Olympic Village' (Winter Games 2010). From there, you can also see 'Science World' (which looks super cool illuminated in the dark).
For our dinner, we find a trendy brewery with pizza as a conclusion to our Canadian journey. Good beer, mega delicious pizza dough 👌 All good 😊
We are a little sad that our last full day is now over. Good night.
