Arles - Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer

Today we head to the Mediterranean! Our destination is Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer in the Camargue. For coffee, we have the best almond cookies in the morning. Simply delicious.

After just 20 km, we reach the nature reserve of the Camargue.

Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer

We arrive at the camping site La Brise around noon and are assigned spot 46. Hard ground, interspersed with stones. No shade (except for the chair) for over 30 euros.

The site has 891 spaces, and currently, many are unoccupied.

After we have been to the beach, we head into the town. The shops are already fully prepared for the summer season. Several coach buses are being unloaded, and pedestrian traffic is blocked in the narrow alleys, which are filled with inflatable boats, fast food, and cheaply made leather goods vying for customers.

As usual, we get nothing to eat in the afternoon as the restaurant kitchens are closed. Therefore, we settle for something quick and later we want to find a place to eat near the campsite.

That doesn't happen, as the restaurant closes when we arrive, even though it should have just opened. There's the campsite restaurant left with pizza and burgers...

In conclusion: You don't have to visit Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. You might as well go to any tourist spot on the North Sea.
