Santiago de Compostela and the Farewell

The arrival in Santiago was emotional, but also many moments afterwards. I decided not to take the bus to Finesterra at the "End of the Earth", but to enjoy the last two days in Santiago. The next day I slept in and enjoyed a long shower. We all met to collect our Compostella, the official pilgrimage certificate. You could only get this if you walked the route and covered at least 100km. The proof was the stamps collected at the cafés and hostels along the way! Another emotional moment occurs when the officer hands you the certificate and shakes your hand to congratulate you. It is done!!! 12 days behind me. The actual route is about 267km, but with all the detours and explorations, my pedometer shows over 300km. On average, this is 31,000 steps per day, with my best day reaching about 51,500 steps. But what does all that matter when "the journey is the destination" actually applies!

How better to end a shared time than with a delicious meal and a few drinks.

It was a tiring but unforgettable time. It’s true, the journey does something to you! The people and emotions are unique. I am very sure that this was not my last Camino and that I will walk again someday. Until then, I wish all my fellow travelers a big thank you for the support, motivation, friendship, and togetherness. I wish all of you all the best and I hope to see you again someday!
