Portuguese Way - Day 8 Walking

Published: 13.05.2018

Day 8 Tui through O Porriño and Mos - Redondela 32.8km

Oh man oh man. I'm telling you. I'm sitting here in the bar in Redondela and had a huge beer after almost 33km. It's making me sentimental. And to top it off, there's a Berlin mom sitting next to me with three girls, speaking beautiful Berlin dialect!

This stage was tough. It's very easy to write about it, and I believe this entry will be more emotional than all the previous ones.

So, I started in Tui in the rain and shouted to the others, "See you later!" Fabia - you cool cat (if you're reading this: you're swell, a really great person)!

I felt so good and my thoughts made me forget my pain.

I finally reached my mom (because today is Mother's Day 😂). No, it may sound a bit strange coming from me, but I really missed talking to her and hearing her voice. I was in the perfect rhythm. In the flow and what she told me made me feel good. #love #family 💕

After the call, I was so motivated that I put on my headphones and continued walking to the march music like Kendrick Lamar (Black Panther) and Fanta Vier (Zusammen).

I have to say that until now, I hadn't really had any thoughts. However, this started for the first time when I played the soundtrack of "Into the wild" by Eddie Vedder. My thoughts started to revolve around the question from the title song Society, "There's those thinking more or less less is more. But if less is more how you're keeping score?"

And so I walked my path with my thoughts in my head until I finally arrived in O Porriño. Right at lunchtime, after almost 18km. I had already booked a hostel and made plans to meet up with Fabia later. But since I was so early, and this town was not very nice, I wanted to keep on walking. So I was torn. What should I do? Stay here and have one less day at the beach or keep walking and leave my crew behind. Ahhh, it was one emotional dilemma. The first one on this journey. And with this rainy mood. I decided to keep walking. I cried on the way and questioned my decision. The path was challenging and the weather was semi-good. But I kept on walking, until Redondela!

In Redondela, the world looked different again. It was Squid 🦑 Festival and people were in a good mood. So I came to this bar and had the way too big beer and ate finger food!

So that's how it was meant to be and I continue on my way. Maybe alone today and with new interesting personalities again tomorrow. This path describes the true life very well. Friends and acquaintances come and go depending on what stage of personal life you're in. Some stay in your life and you lose contact with others. It's sad, but it's reality and so a new day starts tomorrow. Buen Camino! Fabia - see you in Berlin!
