Day 4-6: Rain in the South of France

Published: 28.04.2024

Day 4-6.

It's slowly starting to feel like a vacation. The morning routine goes quickly. With a few simple steps, the roof tent is stowed away, the dishes are washed, the business is done, and the baby is breastfed. So we continue south. In France there are so-called "aire de camping cars", where you can stay overnight, sometimes for free, sometimes for around €10. Usually it's a small place in a village where vacationers take a break. This time we are on one of these "aires" in the village of Le Cheix. Nothing spectacular, but a walk in the sun and a pizza in the evening (not bad for France! 🍕) are included.

The nights are getting a little milder, so Chris doesn't have to shiver quite so much. The next day we head to our first campsite. Finally, the long-awaited shower! 🛀 Unfortunately, the water is only lukewarm, so no wellness spa program, just a quick wash. In the little town of Rivière-sur-Tarn, we go up to a castle ruin with Lore on our backs. The child falls asleep straight away and mom and dad sweat their way up the mountain. Because the sun is shining, yay! At the campsite, we immediately put out the new awning and have an ice cream. C'est la vie!

However, the joy of the sun is short-lived. We spend the next night on the Mediterranean coast in Mèze. There we stay on a private property with two French people who give us a warm welcome with biscuits and madeleines. Lore is our petite jolie fille and is immediately cuddled by the hostess. We walk along the sea in strong gusts of wind, but otherwise spend the day in the bus.

The outlook for the next few days: Rain. Rain. Rain. A thick rain front is hanging over southern France and we are right in the middle of it. Hamburg, 21 degrees and sunshine. 🥲 Oh well. Who knows whether we won't wish for a bit of cooling in a few weeks. Now we're off to the foot of the Pyrenees and hopefully soon into the sunshine! 🌞
