Today, we went to Milford Sound. We had to start early because we chose the first boat tour at 09:45. It takes about 2 hours from Te Anau. There is a lot to see along the way. We didn't know if it was the right decision to book the early tour. The weather can change abruptly here. Now we can say that it was the right decision to leave early because there wasn't much traffic on the route and the weather held up until shortly before the end of the boat tour. The downside was that we couldn't visit all the viewpoints on the way back due to the rain. Milford Sound is a fjord in the southwestern part of the South Island. The landscape is beautiful. Normally, there are not only sea lions, which we also saw, but also penguins and dolphins. It is said to be beautiful to drive through the fjord in the rain because there are many waterfalls to see. However, from our point of view, the atmosphere is much nicer in the sunshine. All in all, the excursion was definitely worth it. We spent the rest of the day in Te Anau and just rested. Tomorrow morning, we will continue on to Queenstown in a relaxed manner.
