Trieste before the return flight
Today our cruise on Mein Schiff 6 comes to an end. A wonderful week filled with many impressions lies behind us. Before we head to the airport this afternoon, we want to stretch our legs a bit. As can be seen in the video on my YouTube channel https://youtube.com/shorts/sa3BxwCV07Y?si=ngcxy7c98KuMR0wP
the Mein Schiff 6 is truly located right at the edge of the old town. A perfect starting point for sightseeing. If only the weather had been better. It constantly threatened rain, but we managed to complete this tour without getting wet. Only the wind was quite strong, as you'll hear in the video.
From the ship, it's a short walk to Piazza Unità d'Italia. This piazza is the largest in Europe, located right by the sea. It houses buildings such as the Palazzo Della Luogitenenza Austriaca, the Palazzo del Lloyd Triestino, the Palazzo del Municipio (City Hall), and the Fountain of the Four Continents (Fontana dei Quattro Continenti). Next, we pass the Palazzo della Borsa Vecchia (Old Stock Exchange) with the sculpture of a seated man reading a book. This represents the Italian writer Gabriele D'Annunzio (1863-1938) and the Neptune Fountain (Fontana del Nettuno). Not only in Venice, but Trieste also has a Canale Grande. Not as imposing as in Venice, but nice to look at. Here you can find the sculpture of the Maria-Theresien-Taler, the Piazza Ponterosso (Historic Marketplace) with the Fontana del Giovanni del Ponterosso. The Church of the Trinity and St. Spyridon (Serbian Orthodox Church), and at the head of the Canale Grande, the Catholic Church of Sant'Antonio Taumaturgo with the bronze statue of Bishop Antonio Santin. On the other side of the Canale Grande, we return towards the sea. Passing by the bronze statue of the Irish writer James Joyce and the Civico Museo Teatrale 'Carlo Schmidl' (city music and theater museum) and the bronze statue of Josef Ressel. Once we reach the waterfront promenade, we have a fantastic view of the city and the Mein Schiff 6. Now the journey home can begin.
