After another night at the Swiss Inn Hotel, check-out was at 8:00 AM for everyone who had booked the additional excursion. Suitcases onto the bus and off they went. The rest stayed at the hotel until about 11:00 AM and were then picked up for the rest of the program.
At 9:30 am we reach the excavation site and oldest pyramid in Saqqara.
After a thorough tour, the journey continues by bus to Memphis, the ancient capital.
Now we're heading back to Cairo and will meet the rest of the two groups at a papyrus shop. From here on, we'll resume our joint program. These papyrus shops are a must-see on any trip to Egypt. The production process is explained, and, of course, as is typical at sales events, purchases are encouraged.
We explored the Coptic Quarter on foot, followed by a break in a coffee house.
As we learned the previous day, our afternoon flights to Luxor were rebooked for the evening. We departed with a slight delay at 7:45 pm and landed at 8:32 pm.
We reached our ship at 10 p.m. The tour guide had informed us the day before, upon request, that we would be sailing on the Nile Admiral. An older but beautiful ship with very good food. Last renovated about 20 years ago. He repeatedly emphasized that anyone wanting a 5-star ship would have to pay significantly more. I had a very uneasy feeling.
