About the country roads of Tuscany

Published: 09.06.2018

Dad woke up early today. Meanwhile, Mom is killing some mosquitoes. The kids are sleeping - as usual, for a long time. It's not good when you actually want to leave early. We start around 9:30 AM, heading towards Rome. We decide to take the country roads. It takes longer, but no tolls and you get to see the countryside and its people. We drive past numerous picture-perfect scenes (Tuscan houses and cypress trees) through a mix of terracotta and green. We take a short detour to Siena to catch a glimpse of the GSK factory. Both kids take a nap at noon. But by 1 PM, everyone is exhausted. Philip feels sick, Jule is hungry, etc. We look for a parking space. It proves to be difficult. It's hard to stop with the trailer in the small towns. We finally find a spot in a beach town and park in a tourist parking lot. Mom cooks pasta. Meanwhile, Dad gets approached by a beach vendor. They are everywhere...

After getting refreshed, we start the final leg of the journey. Both kids play with Lego and Tiptoi in the back. We arrive at our destination around 4:30 PM. Parco del Lago. A campground right by the lake. It feels like being at the beach. Waves, turquoise water, tranquility. Seems like a retreat for the locals. Almost only locals here. We decide to go out for pizza after setting up. The restaurant here looks cozy. Unfortunately, the menu is in Italian. The young waiter couldn't speak a word of English. Hmm...we order what we can somewhat understand. The pizza is delicious and homemade. Satisfied, we go to bed early. Well, what we call early on vacation ;)
