Route: Danube Cycle Path 3 (Györ - Komarom)
Distance traveled: 67 kilometers
Highlight of the day: View of the Danube at Verfahren
Today, the alarm clock rang again at 6, but somehow we didn't get up. We slowly got ready and at some point I remembered that Julius could leave a few things that he doesn't necessarily need and give them to Stefan. So we repacked. It took a while, but it was a good decision. We didn't leave until 8. We stopped at the bakery and got sandwiches for the day. Finding our way wasn't easy. We got lost a lot and it took us a total of 1 hour to get out. Unfortunately, the route out wasn't as quiet and beautiful as the day before when we arrived: huge roads and big trucks next to us. At a traffic light, a bicycle jam formed! There were 10 cyclists (at least 4 of them belonged to a group) waiting there. We would meet them again today, as well as the two cyclists from the hostel in Vienna. Then we came to the first level crossing for today and after that it was uphill all the way. It was quite exhausting! But the scenery was great. Trees, old witch houses, and beautiful gardens on both sides. There are many witch houses there. They are narrow, long, tall, and have an extremely pointed roof. So we rode on lightly trafficked roads in beautiful scenery for the first 25 kilometers. Along the way, we passed many sunflower and of course corn fields. We almost witnessed a car-truck accident once. We took a fairly long lunch break in the shade of the cemetery in Nagyszentjanos. We ate, drank, finished yesterday's diary entry, and relaxed.
Then we continued. On a field path. Calling it a path is an exaggeration. Anyway, the scenery was really beautiful, bushes, shrubs, fields, and train tracks 2 meters next to us, but unfortunately the path was full of potholes, so we had to concentrate fully on navigating it. Luckily, the path became slightly wider and surfaced afterwards, although it still had potholes. So we could ride comfortably, apart from the occasional strong headwind. We wanted to take the alternative route after Acs. It was actually quite good. At the beginning, the path was very very wide with fine gravel. We kept riding and riding, then a quart coming from the opposite direction stirred up the sand, making it difficult for me to ride, Julius had an easier time here. We took a short break in a very well-maintained garden with shade and decided to follow the path. It was the wrong one, but the view was worth it! We went uphill over such high stones that I couldn't ride down into a grove right by the Danube. An amazing view. You could have gone swimming here, but Julius didn't want to. So we pushed our bikes back and finally found the right path.
The path was extremely sandy again (only pine trees grew there) and there was a headwind. We struggled. The entrance sign of Komarom came quite soon, but it was still about 15 kilometers on the road or the bike path right next to it. Then our good mood disappeared - we just wanted to arrive. Komarom is not particularly beautiful: there is no real town center, no old town. We did pass a fortress, but other than that, there isn't much there. Except for a thermal bath, which is located pretty much across from the hotel. By the way, the hotel was very elegant. Once we arrived, we showered and collapsed. Around 6, we went to the hotel's restaurant for dinner. There was a buffet, very delicious and very nutritious. We talked a lot because Julius still can't really imagine our entire tour and about everything else. After that, we took a walk across the Bridge of Friendship. But compared to Vienna, Bratislava, and Győr, everything here is just somehow old, rundown, and far from being as clean. They only have their thermal bath.
