Stage: From Konstanz to Lindau

Distance Travelled: 86 km

Our - as we should decide in the evening - last day started like the previous one with breakfast next to a bakery. For lunch, we took something with us right away.

Right after the train station, which was about 150m away from our accommodation, Switzerland began with the city of Kreuzlingen. In the course of the route, we mostly rode through towns, but always at least within sight of Lake Constance. In the distance, we could see the growing Alps.

After Altenrhein, we temporarily moved away from Lake Constance and now we were riding along the Rhine before it flows into Lake Constance. The old Rhine, the more original part. It was very natural there, places for bird watching were set up, and the dense population gave way to meadows and fields. We took a break there, as we had already come a long way. However, Mama and I had planned wrong, and our packed food did not satisfy our hunger directly.

We continued hungry, along the old Rhine, which we crossed at Rheineck. And whoosh, we were already in Austria. Here, the border was at least visible in that there was a state sign on the Austrian side.

From here, we rode through the Rhine meadows, a nature reserve with vast meadows. We met a father with his son, they also wanted to get to Lindau. They overtook us time and again, and we chatted repeatedly. The two of them were really nice.

Then we came to the Rhine dam. To prevent flooding, the Rhine was straightened almost 100 years ago and redirected into this canal to Lake Constance. But it was not so nice to ride there. Because from here to Bregenz, firstly, the signposting was no longer so optimal, and secondly, there were many construction sites. When I visited my relatives 2 years ago, I got lost exactly at this point. Now again. Finding our way into Bregenz was not easy either, and when we finally entered the old town, there were already 70km on the odometer, and we treated ourselves to an ice cream sundae with the first fresh strawberries.

Now we only had 10km left to Lindau, but it started to get cloudy. We had a grand view of the lake and the mountains in the background, but then again the urban area prevailed.

In Lindau, we strolled through the old town, which is located on the island. After visiting all the tourist highlights, we had a hearty dinner in a restaurant and decided to drive home tonight.

We quickly found the car, but the journey home took longer due to the fact that there was traffic everywhere we wanted to go, and our road map was still from the 80s and we did not choose the shortest route. Nevertheless, we arrived home safely and exhausted around 11 pm.
