Today we fly back to Melbourne to explore the Great Ocean Road in the next few days. Dennis has received the email with the information that our flight from Hobart to Melbourne has been cancelled again. We head to the airport and can be rebooked on an earlier flight, in the row of the emergency exits. We receive a very detailed briefing on the tasks we have to fulfill in case of emergency.
Arriving in Melbourne, we realize at our car rental that we are too early, as we have booked the car one day later 😣. With so many flight, car rental, and hotel bookings, we must have gotten confused. Dennis immediately sees areas for optimization in our travel spreadsheet. So we stay one night in Melbourne and pick up the car tomorrow, having one more spontaneous day would have cost us 440 AUD, which is about 285 €. Dennis even manages to save us money, as we can cancel our original hotel booking for free and book a cheaper hotel in Melbourne. On our way out of the Avis station, we discover a credit card on the street and hand it in at the next appropriate bank branch. Dennis briefly considers using the credit card to buy expensive things in Melbourne, but we are both too honest for that.
We take another walk through the Melbourne CBD and buy sushi to eat in front of the State Library Victoria. The day ends with a wine and a beer in a bar on Elizabeth Street.
