Moving forward

Published: 01.11.2019

We have now completed the 2 months in China and I will give you a little update on the most important things.

The Lean Management is already done and we all passed. This was a big relief for us and we have had a lot more free time since then. After that, of course, there was a beer as a reward and I went to karaoke in the evening. We sang our hearts out for two hours and had a lot of fun. It was really funny. You have your own room with two monitors and a selection of English and Chinese songs.

However, our free time was quickly taken away from us when our professor in AMT said that we should have our 6000-word term paper done in just 4 weeks and without a specific assignment. It was more like: 'Write something about the main topics of our lecture'. Apparently, it's more about quantity than quality, and everyone approaches the paper in their own way. The main thing is not to waste too much time, who knows if she'll even read it :/

Furthermore, we now have our presentations in E-Commerce and Green Manufacturing, the paper in Green Manufacturing, and also the protocols for IM. It's going to be very busy...

Well, at least our project is progressing. We have finished the code, the circuit, and the water circuit still need to be completed, but we found out during the pump test that it is far from sufficient and have ordered a new one.

Recently, I went to Anting for a foot massage with Dimo and Sebi for the first time. We rode our bicycles for about 20 minutes to get there. Unfortunately, it was quite crowded, so we had to wait for about an hour. We passed the time next to the canal with a beer.

The massage was really good and the staff was super friendly. You have your own room with 3 reclining chairs, snacks, and you can watch a movie on the screen next to you. Everything seemed quite luxurious. Each of us had our own masseuse. First, our feet were put in a bucket of hot water to soften them up and wash them. Meanwhile, we received a back and neck massage while sitting, which felt really good. Then we received a ginger massage on our knees, which heated them up strongly. This was followed by the foot massage, which also included massage on the lower and upper thighs. It felt really good and for 20€, you can't complain. The ladies were also very funny and we chatted a bit, as far as our language skills allowed of course. At the end, we took some photos and then rode back deeply relaxed, ready to sleep around 11 pm.

And because I was often asked: Yes, it's also getting more autumn-like here. The temperatures drop to about 15°C at night, but still reach around 23°C during the day in the sun. You definitely can't walk around in shorts anymore and it's generally colder.

Otherwise, not much has happened. I spent a lot of time preparing and taking care of university stuff, so there wasn't much time for other things.
The first weekend in November was extended until Tuesday so that we could go to a fair for which we couldn't get tickets anymore. So it was worth it...
Sophie took the opportunity and went to Inner Mongolia with Selina and Samantha, which looked really cool.
Thomas and I went to the city for sightseeing for the first time on Monday.
We got off at Nanjing Road and then went to People's Square and crossed the river to see the skyscrapers, and then enjoyed the beginning twilight with a beer at the Bund.

With the internship search, things are also progressing. Thomas is pretty sure about his, Sophie has a job interview on Friday, and I am currently in contact with a company recommended to us by Prof. Dittrich, who has now also arrived.

All in all, we are quite busy and that won't change until the end of December. Nevertheless, we will try to do something different on the side because it's very exhausting without variety. I have been jogging every 2 days and Sophie usually joins me because it's more fun together.
And soon, Armin van Buuren will be in one of the clubs here, so we will definitely go there, and our Chinese teachers want to take us on a day trip to a village, which I'm also looking forward to.

I am still working on the campus entry, which should be finished soon, and I want to create an FAQ. So if you have any questions, please let us know and I/we will answer them.

Best regards :)
