210th-212th Day 13.04. - 15.04. Byron Bay / Mt. Warning

Published: 12.07.2019

Saturday 13.04

In the morning, after a hearty breakfast, we said goodbye and made our way to Grafton. There I showed Babse the bridge that was flooded in December and the amount of water that can accumulate in Australia.

In Grafton, we went shopping and had a great lunch and some rest on a meadow.

The plan was clear: Byron Bay - sunrise and Mt. Warning - sunrise.

So we continued on the highway to the rest area Little Italy, met two Germans who would play a role later, and went to sleep in the tent.

Sunday 14.04.

At 4am, we set off, drove to Byron Bay, were checked by a police officer, and I had to take a breathalyzer test. Then we parked in the already crowded parking lot and made our way up to the lighthouse with our breakfast equipment.

You can't call this whole spectacle a 'hidden gem', but it was definitely worth seeing.

We only walked through the city a little bit, because to really experience the atmosphere, you would have to spend several days there.

On our way north, we stopped in Ocean Shores to do some surfing. Whether I will have the chance to surf again remains to be seen.

Arriving at Mt. Warning Rainforest Park, we cooked a delicious dinner, packed our equipment for the hike, and went to sleep.

Monday 15.04.
We woke up at 3:15am and started the steep climb up Mt. Warning. We got the tip about this mountain from Pedee. It is called Mt. Warning because it is the highest visible mountain from the sea and looks very threatening.

After reaching the summit after 4.5km of hiking, we had a coffee and also got an espresso from other hikers. And with such a view, when the winter sun touches the mainland for the first time, coffee tastes even better.

Since we climbed the mountain in complete darkness, we now saw the beauty and peculiarities of the hiking trail.

We then continued to the Gold Coast and Surfers Paradise, and just like me, Babse was not very impressed by the skyscraper skyline and the hustle and bustle.

In Beenleigh, a rest area I knew, we spent the night.
