Day 13 (September 13)
After a restful night, lulled by the sound of the river, we got up early and soon found ourselves in pairs by the road. We hitchhiked our way to Briançon and enjoyed the morning wandering through the extremely charming and already very southern-looking town.
At noon, we stopped at a friendly pizzeria and enjoyed delicious Italian food. We may soon be able to do this more often, as quarantine measures for the Haute-Provence and Côte d'Azur region will soon be imposed by Switzerland. We still have about 5 days to enjoy the region, then we will have to change our plans and leave the GR 5 to travel to Italy.
With full bellies, we walked out of town in the blazing sun in the afternoon. Suddenly, a taxi passed by and we decided to hop in and skip some of the elevation to Ayes. At least we gained some altitude towards Col des Ayes. Now we have settled next to a self-catering gîte. Some of our clothes have been washed and now we are looking forward to a ratatouille under the soon-to-be starry sky.
