Day 8 from Arches NP to Bryce Canyon

Published: 07.08.2016

The morning today started at 7 o'clock. Surprisingly, it was quite quiet in the motel at night and no further unwanted guest came into our room. At 7 o'clock, the 10 Harley Davidson riders left the yard. At the latest, all of Moab was awake.

Our plan for today was to check out after breakfast, then drive into Arches NP again, and then (not too late) start the almost 5-hour drive to our accommodation at Bryce Canyon. That's exactly what we did.

Since it was the weekend, as I realized this morning, the entrance to Arches NP was quite busy but still manageable. So we drove to the places we didn't know yet. We did 2 short hikes to Skyline Arch and Sand Dune Arch, and also visited a few viewing points. Personally, I thought the National Park was okay, but it didn't really blow me away.

Around half past 1, we started the long drive to Bryce Canyon. We drove, drove, drove, drove, refueled (strangely enough, only my credit cards work at the gas pumps), drove, drove, and drove.

That was today's day. We arrived at our lodge in the evening, where we were greeted by sheep and now the horses are neighing. Almost like at Karla and Michi's place on Hiddensee. We walked about 250 meters to the next restaurant where the tomato sauce finally met basil - I was almost excited.

Now we are planning the next day. Since we are staying 2 nights at the lodge, we have the whole day tomorrow to explore Bryce Canyon NP. Mutti and Manfred have raved about Bryce Canyon to us and asked us to wear hiking shoes. But of course, we will! ;-) The expectations for tomorrow are high and the alarm clock is set.
