The campground in Gunlom is right by the waterfall and costs $15 per person per night and has a hot water shower. Since we liked the place so much, we stayed there for two nights.
You can go swimming at the bottom of the waterfall and relax on a beach. Or you can walk 2km around/up the mountain and there you will find 8 small natural swimming pools and an indescribable view.
We spent the first afternoon at the beach and met some indigenous people who were on vacation in the park. We walked up to the top for the sunset and enjoyed the evening in the pool with a bottle of wine. The next morning at 6 o'clock, we went up again, this time for the sunrise. We spotted a crocodile when we looked down at the lower pool, luckily nothing happened when we were swimming there the day before. In the morning, we packed up our car. And for a refreshing swim and to enjoy the sunset once again, we went back up the mountain.
The next morning, we drove back to the main road and continued 170km to the south to Katherine. We stayed there for one night and could go shopping. The campsite also has a washing machine, mobile reception, and a swimming pool.
After that, we continue west to Kununurra.
