At 8:30 a.m., we started the 1800m climb from Stilfserjoch with little traffic. Almost 3 hours later, with more traffic, we reached the highest point of our tour. As expected, there was a lot going on at the pass with several bratwurst stands and various souvenir shops. That's why we didn't stay long and 10 minutes later we were already in Umbrail. When I first passed through 30 years ago, the road was not yet paved. After some poor roads, we were greeted with a great descent in Switzerland. After the first Nussgipfel in Sta Maria, we tackled the Ofenpass. As the name of the pass suggests, it was warm. In the end, we had a descent of 170m gradient to Zernez on the program.
