Kindergeburtstag, my project and my first hike

Published: 28.06.2019

We celebrated Yukon's 7th birthday on Friday at a campsite right by Kamloops Lake! There were many children who paddled or battled with water guns. And in between, there were adults drinking beer. I also met a cool dad named Aaron. We hit it off right away. Still not getting along with Dan though. I also met Lisa again, who wants to "borrow" me for gardening work in my 3rd week, of course☺️. I told her about my difficulties with Dan and the somewhat weird situation. She had a simple explanation for it: Cowboys are men of few words... great. It's difficult, but I just accept it. After we cleaned up, we drove back to the farm. Then, on Saturday, the daily routine set in again. Dan had gone away for the weekend. Okay, so I thought to myself: find something to occupy yourself with. Just feeding pigs and chickens can't be it. I suggested to Jolene to build a shower for the Airbnb guest house. And she immediately said yes☺️👍👍👍. Cool, from now on I could just work on my project as long as nothing else came up. The mood was immediately better!

Then on Sunday, my first hike. Somewhere around the ranch. When I asked if there is a map here, Dan just laughed and said: he doesn't need one, he has a good sense of direction🙄 maybe so, but he knows everything here, especially since he's also a hunter. So I packed my stuff, felt like a scout: enough to drink, sunscreen, pocket knife, bear spray☝️. You never know. I think I got lost for about half an hour. The mosquitoes were really aggressive, and there was only a faint trail. I was really scared of rattlesnakes, bears, and cougars. It felt like in a bad horror movie when I startled a few wild chickens with my stomping. DAMN, I got scared! After not seeing a trail uphill anymore, I went back down and walked around the farm in a big arch through the bush. I even saw a doe, unfortunately the proof photo is missing☺️. And then past the Painted Bluffs Provincial Park, a great rock formation with purple and green rocks.

I arrived back at the farm around 3 PM. It was good!👍
