... this is how the third day in Singapore begins. The Schnippel is the card for the hotel room and the Schnippel is the subway ticket….
Our destination today is the Gardens by the Bay - one of the botanical gardens in Singapore.
On the way there we try to walk in the shade as much as possible. It is noticeable that the workers here, whether in the construction department or the green department, are wearing full gear - i.e. no shorts or short shirts. No, everything long and, if possible, wrapped around your head. You don't even want to understand how they endure it.
The prices in the botanical garden can be read officially on price displays and there it is written in white and blue that tourists have to pay 50% higher prices than the locals.
The exhibitions in the botanical garden, which is very well air-conditioned, are sometimes fantastic - true works of art. There is also a themed garden dedicated to the fantasy characters from the film “Avatar” and you can transform yourself into one using computer animation. - All in all, the botanical garden is really recommended.
We are still amazed by the young people - mostly women - who walk through the park, hold their smartphones 20 cm in front of their eyes and film their walk through the exhibition. They may look at everything again at home, only to be amazed at what they apparently saw. - Well, “Life through a lens” is definitely not our thing.
We wanted to meet two former colleagues for dinner, one of whom unfortunately came down with Covid (fever and body aches). So we spent a lovely evening at the Chinese restaurant with dear Avtar, now retired.
The restaurant was underground in a mall that also has a subway connection.
The locals also suffer from the heat and so much of life in Singapore shifts below the cool, air-conditioned surface of the earth.
We don't even want to know the electricity consumption of Singapore or the whole of Asia.
According to Avtar, this is the third summer in a row that Singapore has experienced exceptional climate conditions and the locals are also suffering greatly.
After 17,000 steps, we arrived back at the hotel around 10 p.m. using Schnappel and Schnippel and are now relaxing.
