Old Town

Don’t limit yourself to the classic tourist spots – go search for the famous Sololaki courtyards. If you appreciate architecture, this is paradise: intricate facades, mosaics, creaky old elevators, and the aroma of wood and coffee everywhere. You can join a guided tour or explore on your own – getting lost here is half the adventure.

To Mother of Georgia or Mtatsminda

If you’re taking the cable car or funicular, remember to apply sunscreen – the mountain sun can be harsh any time of year. On your way back, walk down: from Narikala Fortress, head down Betlemi Street towards Rike Park. The walk is easy (it’s all downhill), and the views are spectacular.

The Bridge of Peace

If you want quiet photos or just to admire the architecture, arrive early in the morning. Later in the day, it gets crowded, but that’s when you can enjoy a boat ride along the Kura River – the city appears entirely different from the water.

Narikala Fortress

A wonderful place for an evening stroll, but keep in mind: it gets windy up there after sunset. Bring a light jacket just in case. The Sulfur Baths look stunning from above, but skip dining there – the restaurants around Betlemi Street are much better (and cozier).

Rezo Gabriadze Marionette Theatre

A magical venue – one of the absolute highlights of Tbilisi’s Old Town. If you’re fortunate enough to secure tickets, go. The performances blend Georgian, Russian, and French in the most poetic manner; you can also request headphones with translation.

After the show, keep the vibe alive and visit Café Gabriadze. The food and atmosphere are as legendary as the theatre itself – together they are part of Rezo Gabriadze’s artistic legacy. The café feels like stepping into one of his plays: ceramics, sketches, stage props, quiet corners, and slow service that feels almost like part of the performance. It’s an experience, beyond just a meal.

Palace of Arts

If you get hungry after visiting the Palace of Arts, head to Salut Café (Lebanidze Street, just a few blocks away). Super relaxed vibe, breakfast served past noon, simple yet delicious food.

Dry Bridge Flea Market

Classic but worth mentioning: haggle. Seriously, bargaining is half the fun here. If that’s not your thing – better search for souvenirs elsewhere. But if you enjoy it, you’ll find vintage photographs, badges, Soviet porcelain, and random treasures that feel like they are from another era.

Mtatsminda & Turtle Lake Hike

If you love hiking, attempt walking up Mtatsminda and continue towards Turtle Lake. The trail is easy and filled with stunning views – city below, mountains ahead, and an unexpectedly peaceful atmosphere so close to downtown.

Metekhi & the Berlin Wall Fragment

Right next to Metekhi Church, on Europe Square, you’ll find a small piece of the Berlin Wall. It was gifted to Tbilisi by the German government in 2017 to commemorate 25 years of diplomatic relations – a quiet but impactful monument.

The Chronicles of Georgia

This is where you’ll capture the most dramatic photos in Tbilisi. Even if you’re not familiar with all the biblical scenes carved into the stone, it’s worth visiting for the sheer scale and atmosphere. Visit around sunset – the light makes these massive figures appear almost mystical.
