18.02.2023 from Harveys Return CP back to Chapman River CP

Published: 18.02.2023

One thing was amazing yesterday evening at 8:45, the wind suddenly died down, apparently the land and water have the same temperature and the warm air no longer needs to rise. A great phenomenon, but with it comes the cold air, which makes sitting outside almost impossible. And the next morning we see that the car is fogged up, indicating high humidity and cold temperatures.

We drive to Flinders Chase NP, the highlight of the island, with the sea lions, the arch and the granite stones.

First of all, we are surprised that we have to pay admission again, 2 old people cost 20 dollars. As a positive side effect, we can upload pictures to our status. Then we hear that after the forest fires in 2020, access to the waters where the platypus is supposed to live is still closed, we can hike, but 20 km there and back are not on our schedule. We visit the Admirals Arch and enjoy the sea lions playing, bathing and, as the information boards explain, wrestling.

Next, we go to the Remarkable Stones, which are stones that were created from a lava eruption and have weathered here over the years. Piece by piece. The round washouts in the ceilings of the stones are inexplicable.

Next, we actually want to go to the sea lion bays, but we have already seen them, so we drive across the island back to the first campsite, which is only half an hour from the ferry. The ferry leaves for us tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m.

We are not alone here, and some very small birds come very close to see what we are doing. They already like our chopped walnuts.
