Noosa: Hiking Trails, Encounters & a Monitor Lizard Blocking My Path

An early start to an intense day

It’s only 1:30 PM, but the day feels like an entire chapter full of experiences.

After breakfast, I set off to Noosa National Park at 7:45 AM, ready for one of the most beautiful coastal hikes I’ve ever done.

The pictures I included show it well:

Many kilometers, challenging trails, roots, rocks, inclines, and this incredible coastal landscape.

Hopefully, the photos give a first impression of

how exhausting yet beautiful this path was.

Encounters along the way – Backpackers, Courage, and New Paths

Right at the start, I met German-speaking people again:

• a young Swiss couple who are backpacking for 3 months
• a man who quit his job at Siemens in accounting because he felt:
  “This can’t be all there is to life.”

Open conversations, honest words – right in the national park.

The National Park – challenging and impressive

What is officially described as “under an hour”

turned into a hike for me until 12:45 PM.

The reason:

I walked the entire loop –

beautiful, but physically really demanding.

Friends of my brother-in-law, who are enthusiastic hikers,

would be ecstatic here.

It is one of the most beautiful, yet also more challenging nature experiences I know.

The Monitor Lizard – a moment of pure wilderness

And then came the moment that accelerated my heart rate:

Suddenly, a large monitor lizard stood directly in my path.

I stopped.

It stopped.

We looked at each other – for a long time.

No one moved.

The eerie part was:

You can’t tell what these animals are planning.

They appear calm, but you don’t know if they will stay still,

run away, or suddenly approach you.

The path was so narrow that avoiding was impossible.

So I just stood there, waiting, observing.

After what felt like an eternity – probably 30 seconds –

it slowly and majestically moved to the side.

As if to say:

“You may go on now.”

A moment in which you feel

that Australia is true wilderness –

not a zoo, not a backdrop, but nature in its own order.

Return, Pool & Well-Deserved Coffee

When I finally arrived at the resort,

I was completely exhausted.

I immediately got a towel

and jumped into the pool –

a perfect end to this intense tour.

Now I’m sitting here with a coffee, writing for you,

and letting the day slowly wind down.

Later, I’ll surely go down toward the beach again –

Noosa is especially beautiful in the evening.

Karaoke – still a little dream

I had hoped to sing karaoke here –

for you, for the mood –

but it seems it’s not very common.

I’ll keep searching.

Maybe it will still work out.

Conclusion of the Day

A day that shows:

Australia is wild, beautiful, honest – and surprising.
