An interesting piece of land

Published: 08.02.2024

Day 12: It wasn't easy for us to leave the Malvarrosa de Corinto campsite. We met a lot of nice people in the five days we were there. Some of them wanted to leave today, but the news of the last few days about the Spanish farmers' strike and its sometimes catastrophic effects on traffic had an impact: everyone stayed - except us.

Now I could say: We were braver. But that would be too much of a lie even for me. Today we had an appointment with Maike in Jarafuel, who wanted to show us her property that she would like to sell. On the 143 kilometer long journey we didn't see a single farmer, only a pile of dung that had been dumped on the thoroughfare of a village and which had to be handled by the police to regulate traffic. No problem.

We were on time almost to the minute. Maike was already waiting for us with her little blue speedster at the agreed meeting point, and after a warm welcome we set off. The approximately seven kilometer long route was tough. Narrow roads with deep holes required full concentration when driving. But after ten minutes that was also done.

We were standing on a neatly gravelled site that could perhaps accommodate five motorhomes. There is a small house built from old field stones. Maike helped with the construction four years ago. The property belonged to an old friend who died two years ago. There is running water from a 200 liter barrel and electricity via a large solar system with an inverter and a modern battery system.

The approximately 6,000 square meter property is far away from the crowds. The next town is Jarafuel, and it is just under a kilometer to the next neighbor, Maike and her husband. It is the typical Spanish country. Red, gray, red-green stone, olive trees, wild rosemary that grows like weeds. Anyone who loves Spain also loves this country. When my old friend Ricci arrives in mid-February, we will take another look at the property together. Maybe he and his motorhome friends from Europe will find it as interesting as Icke and I.

Let's see …
