Resentment against no one, love for all

The National Mall is a four-kilometer-long grassy area that is intended to commemorate all of the nation's great moments. Every war won and some lost has its own memorial.

And then there are several great presidents represented with plenty of marble. George Washington doesn't have his own statue. He has the dominating obelisk in the center.

Abraham Lincoln gets the most visitors. Two signs futilely fight for respect for the great man and for peace and quiet. The hall around the statue is a carnival, with shouting and selfie orgies. Only a few linger longer in the rooms where two great speeches are chiseled into the walls. The Gettysburg Address and the address for the second inauguration four weeks before the end of the Civil War, in which he already makes his stance clear about dealing with the defeated Confederates: resentment against no one! Thomas Jefferson gets the fewest visitors, the third president and author of the Constitution. It seems that philosophers have always had a hard time in the United States. People love catchy slogans, like the guys in front of the White House.
