Today we started the day in a completely chill manner. I woke up shortly after 7. Checked the pool times and headed straight there. Okay, first I took a few laps around the 2nd floor, always following the ➡️ pool, but yes, if one can read 😅 The direction was correct, just on the 5th floor 🤷🏼‍♀️ It was probably a bit too early in the morning. Anyway, searched, found. Really nice here. A small, fine pool with a view. And☝🏼, I had it completely to myself for almost three-quarters of an hour. Did a few laps and when a father with his 2 daughters arrived, I went back to the room.

After a refreshing shower, breakfast in bed was on the agenda. We had to finish off the remaining croissants from yesterday. Later, it was time to pack our bags again. All very relaxed. Shortly after 10, we checked out and wandered around ByWard Market to see what breakfast options were available. We chose Cora breakfast and lunch. Quick consultation with Andi and Mücke and shortly thereafter, we met there. So far, everything was okay, except our 'gang member because tattooed on the neck' service guy thought everything was moving too slowly. Mücke wasn't even finished, and he already stole his plate and then asked if he was done. Find the error 😅 What happens when you get sentenced to an involuntary social year in service, as Mücke so aptly put it... We certainly had something to laugh about and had a good breakfast.
Since there was still enough time before heading back to the airport, we took one more round through Ottawa's Oldtown. A few tourist pictures, and then we went for a final Ottawa drink at TheLaff. The oldest tavern in Ottawa. I thought it was cool back then with Sandra, and it hasn't changed. Nice pub, nice people, good drinks. Shortly after 2 PM, we headed back to the hotel. Picked up our luggage, and there was our airport transfer. A short ride to the airport, checking in together, and of course, Jörg and I found ourselves behind the lady in line who was overly precise 🙄 The nice Jill was bothered by the Ö. That Goetze in eTa becomes Goetze was still fully acceptable, but Jörg being Joerg was a no-go. She kept fussing over it. Everything around us went quickly, Mücke and Andi just showed their passport and moved on, but us with Jill 🙄🙄🙄 Her colleague from the adjacent counter mentioned several times, hey they belong to the German Group, that’s fine as it is. But no, Jill knew better. It's not like this Joerg Goetze entered Canada from Germany on Thursday. Once the nice Jill ensured with her supervisor that the eTa for Joerg Goetze indeed pertains to Jörg Götze, we could finally check in our luggage and proceed.
Before the security check, we had a Subway. The little hunger was there, but we all thought: let’s go through the security check and eat something inside peacefully. If only we had gone to Subway. Because after that, there was still something, but nothing that really appealed to us, and everything for three times the price. So if you're flying from Ottawa, make sure to have something to eat before the security check ☝🏼
So we ended up having some nachos with a small 0.5l cola 😂
Now I am sitting on the plane and trying to bring the blog up to date. I have 'only' 3 days to catch up on 😅
I have time. The nice Jill checked us in so well, the gentlemen are sitting together, and I am far away with another couple from our group. There's no TV and my book is out of reach.
Somehow I managed to pass the 4 hours anyway.
Once we landed in Calgary, everything went very quickly. The luggage arrived in no time, our shuttle bus did as well, and off to the hotel. There we were received by two old acquaintances, Stefan and Andi, the tour guides from the other SportFanReisen Canada tour group. Here at the Residence Inn by Marriott Calgary Downtown/Beltline District, 118 hockey fanatics from Germany are now accommodated 😅 This could be something 😅
During our last trip, we had been here before. A really nice hotel, in a great location.
By now, it was already shortly after half-past nine, so we just quickly brought the luggage to the room and met back in the foyer. Briefly consulted Google about which restaurants in our vicinity might still serve warm food, and off we went to the Local Public Eatery. As we walked in, it was like: Oh, we’ve been here before 😅 We were lucky, we arrived just before last call and got something to eat.
A bit tired and especially because we want to be fit for the trip to Banff tomorrow, we headed straight back to the hotel after dinner.

Note: Here at the hotel we had the best shower fixture of all our stays in the USA and Canada. Setting the shower has never been so simple. One press of a button and bam, perfect. So great that it’s worth a title picture 😂
