Delta del Ebro Nature Park, Peñíscola and Castellón (02.04.-10.04.19)

Published: 09.04.2019

We have been on the road for over a month now and we have never been bored. We have constantly discovered beautiful places that were worth exploring. After having a great day in Barcelona, we needed some nature again, so we ended up in the Delta del Ebro Nature Park. Literally, because we were actually right on the beach and could watch the sunset colors in the sky in the evening. At our next parking spot in the nature park, we met two nice English people who recommended Peñíscola to us. We stayed there for half a day and strolled through the city. The many small restaurants with a view of the sea were getting ready for the high season, and we were glad that it wasn't too crowded there at this time of year. Afterwards, we went to Castellón de la Plana where we met the English people again and had nice game nights with them. We arrived a day before a yoga festival started here. Music was played all day and yoga was practiced everywhere on the beach. It was fascinating to see how well most people were stretched, while I struggle to touch my toes with my fingers.

Because of the beautiful palm-lined promenade and the many fitness parks, we decided to stay in Castellón de la Plana for a few days. Sometimes we just lay on the beach and sunbathed, and sometimes we went for a run or a bike ride. Today we drove through Bènicassim towards Orpesa. An old train track was converted into a cycle path there. Huge rock walls rose up along the road and sometimes we went through tunnels. But we always had a magnificent view of the sea. After covering about 15km, Rob's tire suddenly burst. We had few options now, as we didn't have any repair kit with us and we couldn't possibly cycle back with the flat tire. We decided to attach the bike with the flat tire to the luggage rack of the other bike. Fortunately, we found a long black rope by the roadside for this. With this construction and a heavy backpack on my back, I cycled to our parking spot while Rob walked. Then I cycled back and brought Rob his running gear so that he could cover the last 10km a bit faster. After this incident, we need a break now. Tomorrow we will continue towards València.
