Hello from San Simeon,
Today was all about the ocean.
In the morning, our whale watching tour started at 9:00 am.
Together with about 40 other tourists and scientists, we went out to the open sea on a catamaran.
Except for some slight motion sickness for Verena, not much happened in the first hour.
But then it finally happened. On the (fortunately) very calm sea, we saw a huge fountain. Our guide told us that we were looking at a genuine blue whale. We even got to see a part of its back and fin, from the largest and heaviest creature on earth.
During the 4-hour trip, we also had the opportunity to admire fin whales and humpback whales. A very special highlight was several dolphins swimming next to our boat. We also saw sharks.
The sight of these animals is both overwhelming and fascinating😳
After the boat trip, we continued on our journey. Finally, we arrived where we wanted to be: on Highway No.1 😍
Here, you would want to get off at every lookout point and take endless photos! Beautiful beaches and coastlines, and turquoise blue water - just like in a picture book!!
Tomorrow we will continue to Santa Barbara. We are really looking forward to it!
But before that, we have to take care of something less pleasant: our speedy car, the Chrysler, is indicating that the oil needs to be changed and the airbag needs maintenance. After a brief phone call with the rental car company, we will exchange the car completely tomorrow...
Tomorrow you will find out if everything worked out 😉
Enjoy the pictures from today!!
