Tag 47: Wilson Promontory National Park - Lakes Entrance

Published: 11.12.2016

The night was very stormy and rainy. It continues to rain in the morning. We decide to have breakfast in the camper and hope for better weather. Unfortunately, the sun only appears briefly and the next rain shower is already here.

Originally, we had planned a day of hiking in Wilson Promontory National Park, but that won't be possible. We don't want to risk getting wet because it is too windy and cold. This is the first time the weather has thwarted our plans. We decide not to stay another night in the national park, but to continue our journey right away. On the way back, we stop at Squeaky Bay and Picnic Bay. Fortunately, we can explore the bays without getting wet from above. At the park gate, we spot an echidna.

Our route takes us through Gippsland to Lakes Entrance. The landscape is mostly flat. Large herds of cattle and sheep graze next to thousands of bales of straw and silage on the vast pastures. The kids are a little exhausted and sleep unusually long during the four-hour drive (we have traveled 8,000 kilometers). Unfortunately, it is not possible to drive more than 70 to 80 kilometers per hour in this area, so we arrive in Lakes Entrance at 7:30 p.m.

There are several campsites here and we choose Waters Edge Holiday Park because it is the first one on our route. After the long drive, we want to stretch our legs and walk along the waterfront with the stroller. We had planned to eat somewhere, but everything is already closed. So we have no choice but to cook late at night. We enjoy chicken skewers with vegetable rice.
