Today was a rather uneventful day! After the nerve-wracking switchbacks of yesterday, I decided to take the safe route today and drive the first kilometers on a well-built county road inland. But driving at 60 km/h on a decent road because of countless bridges to cross, isn't really fun in the long run either. Fortunately, this allowed enough time to enjoy the beautiful landscape - which was breathtakingly beautiful here as well. Unfortunately, we couldn't disprove our theory today: "There are no parking spaces at the most beautiful viewpoints!"
We didn't completely avoid curves either - this road also followed the coastline later, in the usual manner, near the cliff. But it wasn't half as bad as yesterday. With the 21m high statue of Jesus on a mountain, you briefly felt reminded of Rio. Lea was immediately enthusiastic about a short detour there. My enthusiasm was limited. Judging by the location, there were again many narrow roads and curves to be expected, and I've had more than enough of that for now. Since this was apparently very noticeable, Lea gave up the plan and settled for a photo.
Slowly, the mountains made way for beautiful sandy beaches and accordingly also tourist resorts. In the off-season, they look pretty bleak, but you can vividly imagine what it's like here in the summer. Since we didn't have a specific destination today, we simply tried to take a road down to the beach to possibly find a nice place to stay for the night. After the third thundering train passed by, we agreed that the beach was great but definitely not a place to sleep. After a few pieces of cake, collecting stones, and jumping waves, the compass continued to point south. We had discovered a public parking lot in Lamezia Terme. Just before we arrived, we saw a sign pointing towards the sea. Maybe there was still a chance for a spot directly on the beach - so instead of turning left, we turned right, and sometimes you just have to be lucky - we are now parked directly on a 50m wide sandy beach on an unpaved parking lot 😊
Of course, it should not go unmentioned that Lea made a significant contribution to the pollution of the world's oceans today and submerged the lens cap in the water while jumping over the approaching waves.
Now we can only hope that there will be no storm surge overnight and you will hear from us again tomorrow!
