10th Day - Courtenay + Comox

The day started with a sensational sunrise over the bay, which we could admire from bed. But that was all the sun we had for today, as heavy rain and strong wind set in. Perfect opportunity to visit the hotel spa with outdoor pool and hot tub.

Afterwards, we drove to Comox, a small dreamy town near our hotel, to have the popular breakfast of "Eggs, Bacon, and Pancakes" at the "Tidal Café".

A little information about the local prices, which are similar in amount and composition to prices in the USA: A breakfast with everything included for 2 people costs about 50 to 60 Canadian dollars according to the menu. That's about 35 to 40 euros. Sounds okay at first... But then there's an additional 12-15% tax and an average of 20% tip, so it can easily become 50 or 60 euros. The same goes for dinner. There's even an alcohol tax on top if you drink beer or wine. 90-100 euros are completely normal here. Life is not cheap in North America 💰💰💵

Brigitte, who is not as delicate as her husband, went on a solo hike along a path by the sea and through the forest, while I lit the fireplace and answered some emails.

Later, we went on a longer walk together through an enchanted rainforest or jungle, which could easily serve as a backdrop for any dinosaur movie. By the way, there are signs everywhere here that explain how to behave when encountering bears, wolves, coyotes, or cougars. Just a side note 😱.

Afterwards, a visit to the Thai restaurant was just what we needed to satisfy our emerging hunger.

Back in our dreamy hotel, we enjoyed the paradise-like garden with its many relaxation areas and fire pits one last time. Because tomorrow morning it's "Bye Bye" Vancouver Island and we're heading to Powell River on the "Sunshine Coast."
