With the “Albatross” to the sea

Published: 06.03.2024

After 10 days in Hermosillo, capital of the desert state of Sonora, we are now sitting on our packed bags, saying goodbye to our spacious house on the outskirts of this sprawling city. It was a bright house and I was woken up by the sun in the morning. We had two showers and three toilets - you could get out of each other's way. The tiny and barren yard was reserved for our smoker. Now let's go! The cleaning lady is already trampling.

Over time, Dietmar's back pain became so bad that he seriously wanted to travel by taxi rather than the bus he had already booked. It was only when we assured him that he would have a seat that he agreed to the adventure and... it was a wonderful surprise for everyone. The most comfortable seats with legroom and the onboard screen was showing “Ferdinand the Bull”. Since I knew the story from my childhood, I for once didn't regret my lack of language skills, sat back and was happy. I would like to take the “Albatross” back to Berlin please. Soon the landscape changed with the setting sun; glowed red and warm and inviting. I was happy about every truck and was amazed at the simple huts, cacti as street trees, lots of SUVs and pickup trucks, the workers or the family in the back on the way home. What? We're already there! So fast??? A pity! Well, then let's look for the new quarters. Roberto is looking forward to seeing us, he wrote...

And then we found it and ... at first ALL of them, yes ALL 3 of them!, were shocked - dark, dingy, old, run-down, sticky and for a lot of money, a lot of money (for one of the cheapest accommodations in Guaymas). Something's not right here. No Mexican can pay that and if they do, will they want to vacation here?!?!? Europeans don't tend to spend their holidays in this corner anyway. Well, my tough kid first explained to Roberto that we're not used to it like that in Europe and that he could please come up with something. Great! I didn't understand anything again, but a repairman was announced for tomorrow at 8 a.m., followed by the cleaning crew at 9 a.m. Well, let's see - good night and thanks Paul!
