Today was another sporty day at Anne's house - which is not usually the case, so I'm giving myself a pat on the back even though I'm not sure if renting a bike was the best idea. But hey, day 2 is over and I'm lying in bed with sore buttocks and I'll happily share today's adventures. First of all, I have to say that the jet lag is still affecting me. My sleep schedule is completely out of control. Yesterday, I was so tired at 7 pm that I went straight to bed, and of course, today, oh my goodness - who would have guessed - I woke up at 5 am. I really hope this settles down, but hey, it's already 8 pm and I'm still not asleep! This morning, I thought to myself: beach, not as much physical activity as yesterday. The reality: beach and a half heatstroke from a bike tour 😂 I'm sure I'll be back as fit as Adonis. Anyway, today I cycled 8km southwest to the Blue Beach Bay - a beach/golf-resort for people who can afford it (or so I thought). When I arrived, I had to line up behind cars at the entrance, waiting for the barriers to open so they could pass through. Although I had read in my travel guide that there is a fee for using the beach, I didn't realize that I had to drive into a gated community. So I waited my turn. The woman in the booth at the barrier looked at me with disbelief when I stood in front of her with my bike and said that I wanted to go to the beach. She then replied that access with a bike is not possible and only cars are allowed. I thought I would have to find another beach, but then she had a conversation with her kind colleague who told me that I could leave my bike with them and he would arrange for someone to take me to the beach! Isn't that incredibly nice?! I didn't have to wait more than three seconds after locking my bike, she called me over and said that I could get into the car with her and she would take me. I got in, greeted her, and thanked her (even though she didn't speak English, she was still nice), and then she drove off and a few minutes later, I was at Blue Beach Bay - white powdered beach and a beautiful bay with crystal-clear turquoise water. The fee for visitors is 15 NAF (8 for children), which is approximately 7.50€. For that price, you can take a lounge chair and use it all day, so I thought the price was okay. That's where I spent my day. I brought a snorkel mask to ease myself into it. I've never snorkeled before because I find marine animals suspicious and I'm a bit afraid... Anyway, I dove in, swam a bit, saw beautiful colorful fish and corals, and then a tiny shark! That really freaked me out and I swam back like a fury. Yes, you can laugh now, but I'm out 😂😱 That's it for now with diving underwater for me. However, since what felt like 100% of the people there (not many, don't worry) were snorkeling and had their heads underwater for 4548795 minutes, I decided to give it another try. And it was actually quite nice!
In the afternoon, I started my journey back home, but first I had to figure out how to get back to the exit. So I simply asked a local and his daughter, who had just finished playing golf. Since all the people here are sooo kind, they gave me a ride. My bike was still there, so everything went smoothly! On the way back, I almost died a little because the last few kilometers felt like uphill and it was 794137 degrees in the sun (it was 30, but I sometimes tend to exaggerate), but hey! I made it and I had another wonderful day in Curacao and that's what matters! So, in that sense, I'm excited for tomorrow and I'm looking forward to writing to you again. Greetings!
