Today we had another sunny day on the island, temperatures up to 22 degrees, little wind. We went north, about 25 km from our quarters, to Santa Luzia. We parked in the village, near the church, where there were plenty of benches to sit on. But for us it was a 10 km long circular route, partly along the coast on the lava cliffs. Actually a hike with a view of Pico, but that was not visible today. First we went uphill out of the village. There, on the path, a goat had just given birth to triplets, which she diligently licked dry. The little ones' first attempts to get up failed, but they were already able to speak. We passed fields, pastures and vineyards. There were even more goats here. The route over the lava was not as adventurous today as yesterday. The shapes, folds and waves that the lava solidified into were interesting. We also went through tunnel-shaped bushes again. We were neither overtaken nor were there any hikers coming from the opposite direction. The Pico was shrouded in clouds until the end of our hike. No chance for another photo. We also passed two natural pools, but there was no activity there either, the Atlantic is still too cold. The last stretch of the path led along the road. Having made it, we went to the terrace to sunbathe. The last two pictures show the slowly opening flowers of the New Zealand Christmas tree, which grows in abundance on all the islands here.
