It's Sunday again, but today was a travel day. After checking out, we took a little look around the resort and then headed straight to the ferry, leaving our luggage at the reception. Of course, it rained again briefly, but the sun won out today. We took the ferry back to the mainland. Our car was safely parked, so we set off around 11:30 AM towards 1770. The town is really called that. Why? In honor of the 200th anniversary of James Cook's first landing in present-day Queensland, the town was renamed from Round Hill to 1770 in 1970. 270 km had to be driven. We passed by Maryborough, the hometown of author P. L. Travers, who wrote the Mary Poppins novels adapted by Disney. Along the way, we again passed farmland, but also sugarcane fields and orange plantations, which were no longer bearing fruit. A detour to Bundaberg might have been worthwhile to visit the rum museum, but time was tight due to speed limits. However, at the port, we had Bundaberg soda. By the way, there are also some Bundaberg products available in supermarkets back home. The most famous is the ginger beer. The bottles are brown and stout. Here, there are many products that are enriched with ginger, as Australia, according to the travel guide, grows the best ginger in the world. Around 4 PM, we arrived in the tourist village right by the Pacific. We have a lovely bungalow decorated in a Bali-Queensland style, as our landlords describe. Everything is airy, with windows or blinds everywhere, and the walls are lined with straw mats. Today, we feel a little like Robinson Crusoe, as we look directly out at the sea from the terrace. Once again, we couldn't see the sunset since the clouds covered everything. At exactly 6 PM, it got completely dark again...
