Last night it rained heavily, so we also had the experience of 'Rain in the Rainforest', even though it wasn't booked. With up to 6,000 mm of precipitation per year, you certainly have a good chance of experiencing some of it... But in the morning it stopped!

Today we could enjoy breakfast in peace, on the covered terrace of the lodge's restaurant. You could sense how nature was steaming. Afterwards, we headed to the nearby 'Daintree Discovery Centre'. This is a park that provides knowledge about the flora and fauna of the rainforest. There are various paths that blend into the forest, equipped with an audio guide and informational brochure. Now you just have to find what was explained. It's easier with the trees; the animals are hiding. At least we caught some small creatures on camera. There were also terrariums, films, and display boards. We only saw Australia's national bird, the Cassowary, here as a model again. It was nice that we had explanations in German, and the paths spiraled upwards, allowing us to view the plants and trees from a height of 23 meters. After two hours, we continued - this time back south. It was 90 km to Palm Cove. The drive was along the Pacific, which had a high wave action today. The wind was blowing strongly onshore. This also stirred the water considerably, and it didn't have the beautiful turquoise color. After a short lunch stop, we arrived in Palm Cove around 2 PM. A cozy room, well-shaded by tall trees, will be our home for the last three days on the east coast. The beach promenade is one cross street away, and the wind was quite strong there. There is a guarded section of beach, surrounded by a net, due to the poisonous jellyfish! Palm Cove is a holiday resort as described in the books. You can also notice that it cools down after 5 PM, the moisture of the rainforest is missing, and the birds start their evening concert...
