The bad weather, even by local standards (according to locals, an El Nino phenomenon....) remains our constant companion and the best protection against rain is..... of course, the rainforest, because it is so dense that it hardly rains inside. Today we were at El Silencio, right here nearby, following your secret tip.
A fantastic park with a lava trail on the relics of the 1968 eruption. During the whole hike, we didn't encounter a single human soul except for a rider on a mule, who seemed to be navigating with his phone. We did come across sloths though, although they are easier to hear than to see and photograph.
If you have ever seen the RTL Jungle Camp, you might have wondered if the constant background noise of crickets, etc. is a bit exaggerated. It definitely isn't. The soundscape is exactly like that....
Maybe some of you are familiar with the movie Predator starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.... The jungle is just as eerie as in this movie... even without the Predator....: - )
