Desert Road

The Desert Road is one of the most beautiful roads in New Zealand, where you drive alongside the volcanic landscape of the Tongariro National Park. I had incredible luck with the weather during the Tongariro Alpine Crossing the day before, but unfortunately, the volcanoes were hidden in the clouds the whole time. However, there were still one or two stunning views with clouds that looked as if they were just emerging from the volcano.

In Taihape, the 'Gumboot Capital of the World', I just wanted to stop briefly to photograph the giant corrugated iron gumboot, but I took the opportunity to replenish my food supplies as well. While there, I discovered the Gumboot Throwing Lane. I wonder what event takes place there once a year?

Shortly before the town of Feilding, I found a rest area with a beautiful view of green hills and grazing sheep. I took a long break there to enjoy the scenery and set up camp for the night just a few kilometers away.
