Santiago is a very European city, which is not surprising since most immigrants in Europe have their roots here. In terms of area, it is a typical South American metropolis with many residential high-rises, which are considered a better residential area here.
Last night, I visited the San Cristobal Monument and walked up there in a quite exhausting half an hour. The view was magnificent despite the smog, but it was also very crowded with families, etc., as the taxi driver explained to me in Spanish that January 2nd is a public holiday if January 1st falls on a Sunday :-)
