When things don't go well

Published: 09.08.2023

Today it's stormy. It started last night. Hurricane Dora, category 4, is passing 700 miles below Hawaii causing quite a stir here.

Don't worry, we're fine. It's our departure day and to celebrate, the hotel staff has gone the extra mile. Today we have bacon and salad in addition to the abundant breakfast selection.

After the MaiTai last night, we completely forgot to reserve the parking at the Crater and this morning we overslept as well. Well, then one less highlight (we have to save something for our next visit to Hawaii). Besides, we're both kind of exhausted.

On our drive to the North Shore of the island, to Pupukea, there are still 2 spots along the way that we want to visit.

First stop, the Byodo-In Temple.

Facts

The Byodo-In Temple is a Buddhist temple located in the Valley of the Temples Memorial Park (all religious communities are represented here).

A large cemetery.

The temple was inaugurated in August 1968 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first Japanese immigrants to Hawaii. A bridge leads to the complex. A 5.5m high statue of the Lotus Buddha, covered in gold and lacquer, is located at the heart of the temple.

Outside stands a three-ton brass peace bell, a meditation pavilion.

and a lot of ponds with Koi fish around the temple.

Thanks to Dora, the weather is not only windy, but also very hazy in the mountains.

Actually, we wanted to visit the filming location of Jurassic Park and King Kong, but with this hazy view, there's no feeling at all.

The Kualoa Ranch

We decide to change our plans - well, we had to. Because there were no more tickets. You can't expect to find tickets for spontaneous people and, yes... I forgot to reserve them. I'm sorry, but who knows, maybe it's for the best, at least we won't get eaten.

This is what it would have looked like in sunshine
The movies were shot here
The actors were here for the shoot

Wow, how dumb can one be? I've been saying for weeks that we have to reserve tickets. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

But it's like getting a speeding ticket. There's no point in getting angry, you can't change it now anyway. The only comfort is the hazy view.

We're having a frustration meal at the beach.

So let's continue to our new accommodation. A small apartment in Pupukea. By the way, the Reimanns (the most famous emigrants) are said to live here too. Maybe we'll meet them.

After a short stop at the supermarket - we have to make breakfast ourselves tomorrow and the day after and we have to kill 45 minutes, we go to our new accommodation.

And it's not ready, despite the late arrival time.

Today is going well.

Our accommodation

The sunset at Sunset Beach Park is also cancelled because of the clouds.

Things are going well for us.
