Lima

Published: 14.06.2024

Before Lima, I had a little respect, as I had heard from some people in advance that it was not a safe city. However, I did not notice anything at all. Neither at the airport nor later. This is surely due to the fact that I (like most tourists) moved in the affluent neighborhoods of the city (Miraflores and Barranco). These two neighborhoods probably do not represent the 'real' life of the majority of people in Lima.

My hotel was in Miraflores, and from there I spent the whole day with a 'private guide'😉 (a good friend of my Peruvian Spanish-German tandem partner from Switzerland). In Diego's company, I felt very comfortable, and thanks to him, I didn't have to worry much about the destination and safety. Diego also helped me buy a SIM card and get a cheap subscription so that I could contact someone in case of emergency. We strolled through the streets and alleys and already tried some of Peru's most important specialties in a restaurant 🤩:

  • Ceviche
  • Causa a la Limeña
  • Mazamorra morada
  • Pisco Sour

You can google for more information 😜, you can also find all the dishes in the photos. I really enjoyed the food! Fortunately, we had eaten enough because otherwise, due to the Pisco Sour, I would have surely ended up under the table 😅 It was really strong (or maybe I was not accustomed 😉).

After the meal, I said goodbye to Diego and walked all the way back to the hotel. That day in Lima was enough for me. But that has nothing to do with Lima, but with me. I generally don't really like cities... Too noisy, too many people, too tight, too chaotic... 😉 But the neighborhoods I visited were beautiful, and the view of the sea as well. I did not see much of the real Lima: Miraflores and Barranco are rather independent 'bubbles' with a strong European influence.

Viel Freude weiterhin Joseph
