Paxos - beautiful and very British....

Published: 11.09.2018

The small island of Paxos welcomes us with turquoise blue sea, steep white limestone cliffs, a multitude of ancient olive trees, and countless impressive sunrises and sunsets. Unfortunately, we quickly realize that this island is not suitable for campers. We search in vain for the perfect camping spot among narrow gorges, steep roads, and masses of very wealthy English people who settle here annually in their luxury villas with their luxury yachts. Next to them, we feel quite small with our camper van and the rented motorboat (which boldly says "for rent" in red and bold). And not just once does an English lady look down on us with a sympathetic gaze and ask, "Oh no really: you have to sleep in the bus? Isn't it too hot?"

But this beautiful island quickly enchants us as well, so we make do with the many English people and reduce camping life to a minimum. For breakfast and sundowners, we sit in Roxy's bar at the harbor of the small fishing village of Logos and watch the hustle and bustle: the baker brings bread in the morning, the luxury yachts get ready, cats jump around and enjoy the leftovers that the friendly fisherman throws to them in the evening. We discover dreamy bays with the motorboat and marvel, often with our mouths wide open, at luxury yachts passing us by. When it gets dark, we secretly look for a camping spot - hoping not to be evicted.

After 5 nights, we say goodbye and will gladly come back... but then without the camper van, in a vacation home...
