Part 6 - Norwegian Nature

Published: 12.08.2025

The sun at the lake, which I mentioned last time, was briefly obscured by clouds, prompting the mosquitoes to come out. André then retreated to the RV to read, but I tried to hold my ground. I had to bear a sting or two. When the sun finally broke through again, I ran back to the bathing jetty and treated myself to a foot bath. It was much too cold for a full swim, though. So I enjoyed the sparkling water surface and the tranquility and let my thoughts wander. One week of vacation is almost over; how will the time in Norway be? Will the weather hold up, or will it draw us back to beloved Sweden? Without music, television, or YouTube, one can simply unwind, and I love that so much up here in Scandinavia. Enjoying nature that has been missed for a year.

Yesterday morning we set off on our next tour north, a small bit further north than in 2019, all the way to Drevsjø. According to my research, there was supposed to be a NEARLY guaranteed reindeer sighting there. We found a spot at Marianne's, who unfortunately does not speak English but understands very well. Okay, we settled in, set everything up since the weather was great, and took a short walk in the adjacent nature reserve. However, we didn't see much. The sky grew increasingly overcast, and the wind picked up, so we quickly dismantled the outdoor quarters for safety. However, I found it too boring inside, so I took a closer look at the surroundings. Then I decided to head out again and went for a walk for about an hour. The area had fewer forests and more moss and swamp, making it look a bit more varied than the last tours. Narrow paths led across expansive moss meadows where one felt like walking on cotton. I kept walking along the path, hearing cracking sounds and other seemingly mysterious noises, but I was completely alone. What a nuisance, I didn’t see any reindeer! I had really looked for and hoped for them! But it was still refreshing.
In the evening, a rain front moved over us again, so nothing exciting happened afterward.

This morning we left the spot around half past nine without breakfast and drove - this time without a set destination - inland. After about 30km, we made a brief stop at a rest area that revealed a true natural spectacle. A rushing river carving its way through the landscape. That’s what we want to see. It’s thrilling.
We then continued for another 20km to a rest area marked as 'most romantic view' on Google Maps. There was indeed a breathtaking view of a valley with another river, but we didn't see the alleged waterfall there. However, we finally managed to have our breakfast at the stone tables, as we had everything with us. So we boiled water, made coffee and tea, and enjoyed the great weather and wonderful view.
The rest of the drive was not so spectacular, until we reached the Friisvegen (Ice Road). A road that led higher into the mountains, above the tree line at over 1000m. Clear blue lakes surrounded by beautiful mountains.
One can’t get enough of the view. That's why I'm sharing not just a few selected photos from there today, but almost ALL of them! It’s incredible up there.
But for a parking spot already from noon, it would be too early and too cold (we can't make a fire there without wood).
So we continued until we finally arrived in Ringebu. A short detour to the stave church was in store, but we saved the entrance fee of about 18€, as we had been there in 2019 already.
Since the weather continued to shine with a blue, cloudless sky and plenty of sun, we decided to stay at Elstad Camping. The view of the river with the wooded rock walls opposite had impressed us back then. Maybe we can observe the Perseids from here tonight?
If the weather permits, because clouds are rolling in again. Ah, Norway...
