Rajasthan - Jodhpur and Jaisalmer

Published: 22.02.2019

Although I really liked it in Agra and especially my accommodation there, I had to move on at some point.

Originally, I was supposed to go east. But since my night bus was extremely late, I ended up going west to Rajasthan, more specifically to Jodhpur.

Jodhpur is also called the Blue City because most of the houses are painted blue - a bit like the Santorini of India...

Overall, it was quite cozy and the people seemed pretty relaxed to me.

Like in pretty much every city, there is a fortress in Jodhpur, but it was the most interesting fortress I've seen so far...with a view of the city rooftops and cannons.

Since I was pretty much the only foreigner there during my visit, I spent half of the time taking selfies with Indians.

Jodhpur is definitely worth a visit and you must see the fortress if you're traveling in Rajasthan.

Since I have learned to plan my further itinerary in advance despite my initial naivety, I took a bus to Jaisalmer next, further towards the Thar Desert near the Pakistani border.

Jaisalmer is supposed to be nice as well, admittedly I didn't see much because as soon as I arrived around noon, I saddled a camel and rode into the Thar Desert.

The camel tour is pretty much the highlight of what you can do in Jaisalmer and also my personal highlight so far.

We rode the camel for 2 hours towards the desert, where we had food from the campfire and spent the night in the desert...awesome!

Actually, it is marketed as "Night under the stars". However, there were not many stars to see.

Actually, it had not rained in the region for 2 years, but in my night there were at least a few rain showers, so there was no night under the stars but rather a night under a huge plastic tarp😂

But it was still awesome, I can highly recommend it.

The next morning, I went to Jaisalmer airport at 6:30 am...Mumbai was supposed to be the next stop!
