Survive your journey!

Published: 03.11.2023

Australian traffic signs look a little different than in Germany. The only things that are the same are stop, give way and speed limits. There is also a speed recommendation for the speed limit...

Everywhere you can find these yellow signs with all sorts of animals on them, usually koalas or kangaroos. The latter in particular are quite active in the morning and evening and I saw some lying on the side of the road on my journey 😪. There are also signs with cows and cars or "Dead End" - sounds dramatic, but it's just a dead end...

My journey continues north. It will be a 6 hour drive. I have driven almost 1600km since leaving Brisbane to the northernmost point of my journey. I didn't even change the state, I just crossed to the stop! 😳

The roads are long and sometimes very straight, I can already see the car in the distance that will soon drive past me.

There are all kinds of signs on the street. One recommended that you do a puzzle quiz while driving. The next sign actually had a quiz question on it and the sign after that had the answer.

But many of the signs said something like this:

  • Take a break now or you'll die
  • Rest or RIP
  • Survive your trip

At one point there was also a large cage containing a real, very battered car with the caption: "The driver of this car was tired!"

There was always a burned out or broken car on the side of the road - it will probably stay there for the next few years...

At least I survived my trip to Airlie Beach, but I was very happy that the trip was now over for the day...
